Elements, part 2
"Show me."
Myka holds the magnetic bag up to the Farnsworth's camera. Inside is a broad, striped feather--the feather that Myka says she found phased halfway through the auctionhouse wall--with a beaded leather thong tied to the shaft. "Looks Native American," Artie remarks.
"Yeah. We think it fell off something larger. A, um, ceremonial object, a walking stick, a peace pipe, maybe..."
"Or a bird," offers Pete. Myka gives him a Look.
"Yeah. Any guesses who this thing belonged to?"
"Uh, well, maybe one of the two guys who wanted to buy the sculpture, but we haven't interviewed one of them yet," says Myka.
"Radburn seems too rich to risk it," opines Pete. "He could outbid Donald Trump. I think we can rule him out."
"No, no, never rule anything out," says Artie.
The two other agents exchange a significant glance before Pete speaks up again. "Okay, uh, well, the second guy's a rich dude. His name's Jeffrey Weaver."
"Jeffrey... Weaver." That name rings a bell. "Is that the son of Alexander Weaver?"
Myka frowns. "Um, Artie? Who is Alexander Weaver?"
"Was," Artie corrects her, even as his fingers fly across the computer keyboard. "An extortionist, real estate swindler, and a ravager of cultures. Not a nice man. Now deceased. And... yes, his son, Jeffrey, lives in New York, so..." He picks up the Farnsworth so he can speak to Pete and Myka more directly. "Look. Unless the acorn fell very far from the tree? Watch your backs."
Artie thumbs the On/Off switch on the Farnsworth and settles back in his seat. A Native American ceremonial object, eh? Sounds like a good solid lead to follow. Once he's checked up on Claudia, that is.
