Implosion, part 10

Artie's Office
Warehouse 13
South Dakota

Artie is not going on any more field missions if he can help it. He certainly won't be going on any until his shoulder is healed. Luckily the sword didn't hit any bones or vital organs, but he's looking at at least a month of wearing a sling and popping painkillers in order to remain functional.

Fortunately, Artie's duties at the moment aren't too strenuous. They mostly include watching Myka bitch about him while she and Pete make sure the sword is safely secured in the halls of the Warehouse.

"She's upset because I don't communicate," Artie grumbles at Mrs. Frederick. "Did she not notice the word 'secret' in her job description? Their job is to follow instructions."

Mrs. Frederick quirks an eyebrow at him. "So is yours."

"You knew that I couldn't let this go," says Artie quietly. "And as it turns out, I was right."

"I apologize for doubting you."

"Oh." He wasn't expecting that. "Well, we're all human... as far as I know." The kettle's boiling; he hefts himself to his feet and begins the arduous trek across the room to pick it up. "You know that this was only MacPherson's first move," he calls back. "He's planning something--bigger."

"Any guesses what his plan might be?"

"No, I don't know. I don't wanna wait to find out." He carries the kettle back to his seat and pours the boiling water into the teapot. "You know what the Talmud says, if someone's coming to kill you? Get up early, kill them first."

"It also says 'Don't rush into any unnecessary danger,'" says Mrs. Frederick soberly. "'A miracle may not save you.'"

Food for thought.
